Lawren Rich
Manitoba contemporary painter Lawren Rich (he/they) has been producing high quality, innovative, original artwork for over 30 years. Their original studies began in graphic design in the 80s, shifting from large scale mural work to fine art on canvas over the years. Their unique vision and experiences are reflected in works that address their passions for rural, animal, and cityscape themes to the conceptually abstracted themes they currently enjoys exploring. These pieces are informed by their life long love of the prairies.
Lawren’s work can be seen in galleries, homes and businesses throughout the province and across Canada. Custom, one of a kind, commissions make up a large portion of his portfolio.
Lawren also plays contemporary guitar and double bass part time in various formats at small venues around Winnipeg and the Manitoba area. Their approach to music follows the same lines as their art; expressive, creative and personal with an emphasis on space and vitality.

Lori Ferguson
Winnipeg artist Lori Ferguson expresses her belief that the inevitability of change is the only real constant in life through paintings that evoke a sense of shifting and movement. She loves to paint common and seemingly tangible items in a way that shows both their lasting nostalgic impact on our lives, as well their impermanence as they fleetingly appear and disappear from our daily realities.
Full of characteristic brush strokes and a palpable quality of energy, Lori’s paintings are alive with energy and motion. Using oil paint as her main weapon of choice, she expects that her work will elicit a response to both the familiar and the unexpected in her passionately painted forms.
Lori has exhibited her work in a number of solo and group exhibitions and galleries. Her paintings can be found in private collections throughout Canada and the United States.

Terry Hildebrand
Terry Hildebrand makes his ceramic work out of porcelain with a focus on drinking vessels. He fires the pieces in a soda, salt, or a wood kiln to give them a delicate flashing of reds, oranges, blues and greens. The earthy tones reflect the earthen qualities of clay. Good craftsmanship, ergonomics, and visual balance are important. The main purpose of his utilitarian ceramic work is undeniably its function. The ritual of its use becomes a central experience. Hildebrand creates playful sets that entice the users to interact with each other and the tray. The sharing of food, drink, fellowship, and play lie at the heart of our existence and the conscious ritual and enjoyment of these are greatly enhanced by the experience of the visual and tactile senses that the ceramic wares address.
Originally from a small town in Manitoba, Terry Hildebrand graduated with an MFA in Ceramics from the University of Minnesota in May 2014. He received a BFA Honours degree from the University of Manitoba in 2007. From 2009 until 2011 he worked as studio technician in the ceramics department at the University of Manitoba. In the years after his MFA he taught at Medicine Hat College, University of Manitoba, and has participated in multiple residencies at Medalta and the Banff Center while also exhibiting nationally and internationally. Terry and his partner Miriam Rudolph are full time artists based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Carolyn Klassen
Carolyn Klassen grew up on a farm in Western Manitoba with a love for the prairies and rural life. With the guidance of her mother she learned to sew, and became enthralled by the possibilities of scrap fabrics from her mother’s sewing.
As an experienced quilter and sewer, Klassen uses high-quality materials, including hand-dyed and batik fabrics, while employing a multitude of art-quilting techniques to emulate her dreamy landscapes.
These hand-made quilted ‘postcards’ are based on Klassen’s personal photographs from various places in Manitoba. Each one is handmade, varying in colour, texture, and detail, inspiring a sense of what is unseen in the world, and in Klassen’s view, the spiritual.

Jared Loewen
Jared Loewen was born in Regina, Saskatchewan into a large family of seven. From a young age, he was always drawn to serenity provided from drawing cartoon characters in imaginary worlds. As a teenager, Jared spent most of his free time honing his skills as a cartoonist, realistic pencil artist, and eventually painter. Originally, he desired to be a hand-drawn classical animator for film and television. When computer animation began to increase in popularity, however, Jared steered his plans into a more desirable and traditional route. He enrolled at UBCO and majored in history with a minor in mathematics. Elements of Jared’s post-secondary education are seen in his work today. His appreciation for history, for example, is hidden in the conceptual meaning of his works, while math is seen more evidently in his use line, shape, and order. Jared went on to become an elementary school teacher which he continues to this day.
Jared is a self-proclaimed lifelong learner and has always been drawn to the elemental aspects of life – it’s origins, meaning, and destiny. His current body of work breaks down the human form into the fundamental expressions of line and shape. He uses these basic elemental forms to build, express, and contemplate the interplay between form and formlessness, the fabric of consciousness, and the origins of the human story. Today you can find his contemporary original works at The Lloyd Gallery in Penticton, BC.

“The possibilities that encaustics offer seem unlimited and the depth that can be created with encaustics is unique. It provides the ability to build up texture and the surface of the work and then scrape back, carve in and fuse. Building up and breaking down, constantly adjusting. Encaustic is so tactile, I love the myriad of possibilities the medium offers. I feel it encourages everyone to explore and discover their own unique voice. The studio enables me to share my passion for painting in encaustic and various approaches to working in the medium.”

Roman Świderek (prints & cards)

Roman Świderek was born in Lodz, Poland, where he learned to draw and paint at the side of Professor Konstanty Mackiewicz. He worked as a designer and artist preparing large displays and images of political figures of the day.
In November 1961, Świderek arrived in Winnipeg with his young family. He was immediately introduced to set designer Peter Kaczmarek who put him to work on various set designs for Rainbow Stage, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Manitoba Theatre Centre, and the University of Manitoba. In 1965, he opened his first business in design and fashion, and over the years, operated four successful businesses dealing with everything from consulting design to fashion design. In 1989, he put the businesses aside to focus solely on his art.
He travelled extensively from the east to the west coast, painting and displaying his images of Canada. In 1976, on his first summer trip to the Columbia Icefields, he began sketching and painting watercolour scenes of the Rocky Mountains. In 1982, the management of the Columbia Icefield Chalet invited him to display his work for the summer season. This invitation began a 13-year odyssey of painting and travelling west to the Athabasca Glacier. This spring migration ended when the iconic red chalet was taken down in the fall of 1995.
In addition to the end of an era at the Icefields, the 1997 Red River Flood of the Century kept him at home. In his studio on the bank of the Red River, Roman worked on a series of flood paintings that raised over $100,000 for Manitoba flood victims. This collection of thirteen watercolour paintings was purchased by Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company and donated to the City of Winnipeg.
Świderek is perhaps best known for his large collection of Winnipeg city scenes. His images of Winnipeg are motivated by his strong belief in the celebration of home, and the value of capturing the past for future generations. He believed in making his art accessible and many of his paintings of Winnipeg scenes and landmarks are available as limited edition reproductions and art cards. The backs of all art cards carry a vignette about the city, in both official languages, and are popular with Manitobans and tourists who are looking to take home a piece of Winnipeg.
Świderek worked with drawings, oils and watercolours. His work is found in collections across Canada and abroad.
